Students who achieve a major GPA of 3.90 or higher in the MCB major (biology, chemistry, physics, statistics, and math courses for the MCB major) at the end of their penultimate semester are eligible for academic distinction.

All of the students listed above for their achievements will be invited to the School of MCB Awards Ceremony, scheduled for Thursday, May 4, 2023.

The following students were awarded monetarily for the 2022 MCB Undergraduate Research Symposium:

  • School of MCB Director’s Award for Exceptional Research Presentation
    • Emma Ibanez, Engineering the first transgenic clownfish for studying socially influenced sex change, Dr. Justin Rhodes' lab. Research supported by the 2022 School of MCB Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship. Emma earned a perfect score for her research presentation.
  • School of MCB Director’s Award for Exceptional Research Presentation
    • Hunter Carrell, Derivatization of ErSO-TFPy, a Selective Killer of Estrogen Receptor Positive Breast Cancer, Dr. Paul Hergenrother’s lab. Research supported by the 2022 School of MCB Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship, sponsored in part by Frank Witney. Hunter earned a perfect score for his research.
  • School of MCB Outstanding Research Presentation Award
    • Neha Ramachandran, Analysis of the Role of Transcription Factor Runx1 in Uterine Angiogenesis, Dr. Milan Bagchi’s lab. Research supported by the 2022 Jenner Family Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship. 
  • School of MCB Research Presentation Honorable Mention
    • Madeleine Meehan, Endurance trained extracellular vesicles as treatment to improve muscle recovery following disuse atrophy, Dr. Marni Boppart’s lab. Research supported by the 2022 School of MCB Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship. 
  • School of MCB Research Presentation Honorable Mention
    • Anastasiya Sushkova, Bioinformatic Discovery of Haplotypes in Genomic Regions Differentiating Populations of Red Foxes (Vulpes vulpes), Dr. Anna Kukekova’s lab.
